State Rep. to hold a press conference to discuss proposed settlement pertaining pollution

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – State Representative Mary Moore of Birmingham will hold a press conference to discuss a proposed settlement pertaining to benzene pollution at the ABC Coke facility in Tarrant.

The proposed consent decree between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Jefferson County Board of Health, and Drummond Company involves a number of issues including Drummond paying $775,000 in penalties related to wastewater pollution at its ABC Coke plant.

Representative Moore will focus on various aspects of the consent decree as well as instructing citizens how they can comment on the proposed settlement.

The press conference will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8 at the Harriman Park Recreation Center located at 4347 F.L. Shuttlesworth Drive in Birmingham.
