UPDATE: According to Whitlee Lusk of Jefferson County Schools, McAdory High School is no longer under a soft lockdown.

In a statement, Lusk tells CBS 42,

Our school was on lockdown this morning due to a reported threat of an intruder at McAdory High School. Because the threat was properly reported to our school administration, we went on lockdown, the situation was quickly resolved by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and the normal school schedule has resumed. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority and we will continue to work with law enforcement as they continue to investigate.

According to Sgt. James Perry of the Jefferson County’s Sheriff office, the former student who appeared on McAdory High School’s campus and possessed a gun has been charged.

Between 7:30- 8 a.m. staff and students witnessed the 17 year old hiding in the bathroom at the school. They called 911. The former student was arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff’s office and taken into custody.

Authorities claim that the reasoning behind the former student’s appearance on school grounds was because they had an issue with a student.

According to Jefferson County School Superintendent Craig Pouncey, At 8 a.m. Friday morning, McAdory High School was put under a soft lockdown after a former student was spotted on the premises with a gun by resource officers. The former student has not attended the school since December of 2018. They were sent to an alternative school and later dropped out.

At present, the former student has been detained.

The school is still on a soft lockdown.
