SYLACAUGA, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: A Diamond Aircraft DA-20 landed in a parking lot at the end of Runway 9 at Sylacauga Municipal Airport at 3:25 p.m. on Monday.

The pilot was the only person on board, and was practicing approaches to the runway when the accident occurred.

The FAA is continuing to investigate the accident, and local authorities will soon release the pilot’s name and condition. WIAT will post this information when it becomes available.

ORIGINAL: A small plane went down in the parking lot of the Towne Inn Motel, according to Sylacauga Police Chief Chris Carden.

Carden said there are no injuries reported.

Emergency crews are working to determine the cause of the plane landing. An eye witness at the scene said the plane came over a tree, clipped a power line, spun sideways, skidded and then bounced right in front of room 121 at the Towne Inn Motel.

It has yet to be determined exactly what the pilot was doing in the sky, however WIAT is working to confirm what the pilot’s mission was, as well as what went wrong.
