BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — City and religious leaders will gather in and around the Magic City on Thursday in observance of the National Day of Prayer.
The Greater Birmingham Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. at the Sheraton hotel in downtown Birmingham and mayors from Jefferson and Shelby counties are invited to the event.
Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato told CBS 42 he planned to attend.
“We have got to continue to recognize that God is the answer to all of our problems and that we must go before him on a regular basis and ask him to intercede,” Brocato said.
Brocato will host his mayor’s prayer breakfast in Hoover on Tuesday, May 7.
In Montevallo, American Village will host a prayer breakfast for the National Day of Prayer on Thursday starting at 8 a.m.
Ruth Graham, the daughter of late Rev. Billy Graham, is the keynote speaker and the event sold out last year. According to a Melanie Poole, a spokeswoman for American Village, 330 people are expected to attend the event.
“It’s a day to take time to pray for our nation — pray for our nation’s leaders — it’s a time to reflect on the importance of prayer in our daily lives and in the lives of our country,” Poole said.
In Alabaster, the Amazing Grace Worship Center will host a National Day of Prayer event starting at 6 p.m. Thursday. The community is invited to the event and organizers plan to have specific prayers for the communities represented as well as a prayer for the nation.
The church is located at 949 Highway 31.
