ATLANTA (WIAT) — If there’s one point Alabama head coach Nick Saban wanted to make at SEC Media Days, it’s that no decision has been made when it comes to the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback for the 2018 season.
He made it clear in his opening statement that it was very much TBD between rising sophomore Tua Tagovailoa and rising junior Jalen Hurts. Still, one of the first questions Saban was asked by the media was if he expects Jalen Hurts to be on the roster come kickoff.
“Well I have no idea, I expect him to be there,” Saban replied. “I think it’s our job to give both players a very fair opportunity to have a chance to win the team at their position. I think…both are capable. We will create a role for one or both of those guys on our team.”
Saban said regardless of whether Tagovailoa or Hurts is chosen as starting quarterback, he’d love for every one of their players to graduate from UA.
“We’d love for every player on our team to stay at the University of Alabama and graduate, Jalen has a great opportunity to do that in December and we are hopeful that he will stay there and be a graduate regardless of the circumstances of him as a player,” Saban said.
