UPDATE 5 P.M. — The escaped inmate is back in custody.
ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Authorities are searching for an inmate who used a trash can to climb over a fence to escape from the Etowah County Detention Center.
Around 4:40 a.m., staff noticed Jimmy Ray Green, 48 of Wellington, was missing. Video surveillance at the Etowah County Detention Center shows Green using a garbage can to assist him climbing over a fence behind the temporary kitchen he was assigned to work in at around 4:15 a.m.
Green was last seen on video running east on the railroad tracks behind the facility. Deputies found his yellow-colored inmate shirt lying on the tracks.
The temporary fence does not have Constantine wire that is normally present due to jail renovations that involve the permanent detention center kitchen, the sheriff’s office reports.

He was incarcerated following an arrest and charges from Rainbow City Police Department for Attempting to elude and felon in possession of a firearm. He had no bond due to outstanding misdemeanor warrants with Guntersville Police Department for violation of a protection order.
