Today the Birmingham Airport Authority held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) to celebrate the opening of the new sensory inclusive room.

The sensory room allows individuals with autism and other sensory needs the ability to see and experience all the things the world has to offer.

Having a sensory room allows for a quiet and secure place for individuals to take a break and calm down from the overcrowded, harsh lights, smells and loud noises the airport may bring.

Sylvester Lavender, who is the Birmingham Airport Authority’s Interim President and CEO hopes that the sensory room can help make the airport experience less stressful and overwhelming.
