BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Magic City is one of the best cities across the map to drive in, according to a new report from WalletHub.
Some people hear that Birmingham is in the top 10 and raise their eyebrows, but when you really think about it, the study could hold some truth.
WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 30 key indicators of driver-friendliness. The data set ranges from average gas prices to annual hours in traffic congestion per auto commuter to auto-repair shops per capita.
Coming in first for best cities to drive in is Raleigh, N.C., followed by Orlando, Fla., Lincoln, Neb., Tampa, Fla., and Winston-Salem, N.C.
Cities among the worst to drive in, according to the WalletHub research, are San Francisco, Philadephia and Detroit. Although the study did not link the cities’ population to its results, many of the worst cities to drive in have populations over 500,000, some near 1.5 million. The cities in the top five all have populations under 500,000.
