SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Update: Power has been restored in the Inverness area of Highway 280. All signals are back on, ALDOT says.

Original: A power outage in the Inverness area of Highway 280 is affecting traffic signals, ALDOT says.

Traffic lights in the area are out, and causing traffic to backup on the eastbound side all the way to Grandview Hospital, Real Time Traffic anchor Rachel Lundberg reports. Lundberg says signals are out from Inverness Pkwy to Summit Blvd on Highway 280 eastbound.

Avoid the area if you can, but if you can’t, be cautious while driving. The rules of the road dictate that in the event of a blacked out traffic signal, treat the intersection the same as a four-way stop.
