BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — After the first Democratic debate Wednesday night, CBS 42 news reporter Hillary Simon talked to democratic voters on how they felt about the debate and who stood out.

There were watch parties held Wednesday night including one at Saturn in Avondale where voters gathered to watch some of the democratic presidential candidates take the stage in Miami, Florida.

Thursday morning, some democratic voters talked with CBS 42 about how the debate went and what they are looking for in a candidate.

Democratic voter Julia Juarez said, ” I think there was a lot of energy and excitement. Everyone is very progressive in the policies they’re going for, just kind of all over the map on how they want to get there.”

Local voters said they’re passionate to hear about candidate’s stance on health care, student loans, and immigration.

Democratic voter Jerome Dees said, ” We have a wide range of options available to us, individuals that truly understand where the heartbeat of the democratic party. Focusing on things like economic inequality, criminal justice reform, and addressing our immigration system.”
