WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Three suspects charged with the murder of Dora teen Nicholas Hawkins were seen in court Thursday morning.
The preliminary hearing for Danny Jarvis, Corey Conner and Joshua Reese wrapped up Thursday around 11 a.m. All three are charged with murder in the death of 19-year-old Hawkins.
Dora Police Chief Jared Hall testified and gave gripping testimony into the case including the manner in which Hawkins was killed. Hall said Joshua Adam Reese shot Hawkins in the back with a shot gun before repeatedly beating him in the head with the butt of that same gun.
Hall’s testimony says the two other murder suspects Cory Conner and Danny Jarvis helped wrap Hawkins’ body in a blue blanket and stuffed it in a duffle bag before burying his body under debris and trash in a remote area adjacent to interstate 22.
Hall also mentioned an apparent relationship between Hawkins, his mother Daphne and Reese, as they all hung out the day before he went missing. Hall went on to say that when Hawkins called his mother to tell her he was in danger, she did not call 911.
Hawkins’ family found Nicholas’ car parked on Stevens St. and inside, it appeared to be cleaned by bleach. A shot gun was found along with a container of bleach in the trunk.
A judge found there was probable cause to send the case to a grand jury. The three suspects have been behind bars since their arrests. A bond hearing will be scheduled for a later date.
