Picking the best car for your family

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — If you are in the market for a new car but aren’t sure what’s best for you and your family, we’ve got your back.

Buying a car is a big decision, especially when you have a growing family! There are so many choices out there now, Consumer Reports tested them out and picked their favorites for your family.

If you have young kids this list is for you.  After looking at the ease for installing car seats and how smooth the ride is for sleeping babies and other features — their favorites were: The Audi Q-7, the Hyundai Azera, the Subaru Impreza and the Dodge Durango.

Next for the family with teenagers: They picked the Subaru outback, Toyota Avalon, Buick Enclave, and the Ford Flex looking for leg room in the front and back, space for friends, transporting sports equipment and fuel economy for those teens who will ultimately end up driving the car themselves.

Or if mom and dad are living with you, they picked their favorites for families with grandparents. The Acura MDX, Toyota Rav-4, Toyota Prius and the Kia Soul came out on top for their space, the ability to fit 3 adults in the back seat and overall comfort.

Lastly they picked their favorite all-around cars for any family, looking at interior room, big door openings, cabin access  two of their favorites were the Subaru Forester and the Toyota Sienna.

They did a complete road test on these vehicles.
