Pell City leaders discuss plan to spend $1.2 million on entertainment district

PELL CITY, Ala. (WIAT) — Pell City leaders are discussing a plan to put $1.2 million into a proposed movie theater and bowling alley that could open as early as April 2017.

The proposed site is on Vaughan Lane behind Home Depot, near I-20. Under the agreement with the developers, the city will buy the property, then make site improvements. The developer will then repay the city about $85,000 a year over a 15-year period.

The 40-thousand square foot building would include a 7-screen theater, 10-lane bowling alley, arcade and cafe.

A community hearing is set for June 20, where the public can let the City Council know what they think about the project. It is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. After that, the City Council will vote on whether to accept the agreement with the developer.

The development is the next step in a flurry of economic activity in Pell City, which includes a Buffalo Wild Wings, currently under construction.
