‘Peace in the Park’ wraps up for the summer


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The city of Birmingham held the first “Peace in the Park” since a shooting near UAB shook the community Thursday night.

The city hosts the events as part of an effort to combat crime in the city.

The victim was Tremanie Howard, 20, of Bessemer.

Howard was found on the 600 block of 18th Street South after south precinct police arrived on the scene of the 1800 block of Seventh Avenue South to investigate a call of shots fired.

Original Story: A person was found deceased and lying in the street on the 600 block of 18th Street South. According to the Birmingham Police Department, the victim appeared to have suffered from an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators located a handgun on the person of the deceased.

Officers of the south precinct responded to the call at around 10:49 p.m. Thursday night and arrived at the reported location of 1800 block on Seventh Avenue South. Upon arrival, they spotted the deceased on 18th Street South.

There are no suspects in custody.
