Passengers survive small plane crash in Alexander City

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating a plane crash in Alexander City. 

The plane went down Sunday morning in the 3700 block of Highway 280 as it was approaching Thomas C-Russell Field. 

After those on the plane escaped, it reportedly caught on fire. Officials tell CBS 42 the pilot and his grandson were aboard when the plane crashed. They were not injured in the crash.
