One class at a time: Montevallo Middle School

News

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (WIAT) — Beverly Lucas teaches math at Montevallo Middle School and like many other classrooms, Lucas’ is in need of more supplies for her students.

Lucas said, “We are in need of good calculators, graphing calculators.”
She says that having more graphing calculators will help her students reach higher goals.

Lucas adds, “It will up the challenge of being able to do bigger and harder problems. We can do more equations [and] hopefully graph on them.”

With the help of Eco Credit Union, we presented Lucas with a $1000 check to help her buy those calculators.

Lucas says the grant will go a long way in purchasing what she needs.
Lucas said, “I should be able to get  a classroom set [of graphing calculators] that they can use every day.”

Lucas believes the calculators will give her students an edge as they enter higher grades.

She explained,”This will give them an advantage as they go to seventh or eighth grade where they do use graphing calculators. It will take them through high school.”

This was made possible by a one class at a time grant.
