ASHVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — Two St. Clair County teachers are making plans to spend $1,000.
At the Eden Career Technical Center, teachers like Dwayne Pruitt and Shawn Hill help students learn skills in courses like auto repair.
“They’re learning all about the mechanical parts of the engine,” Pruitt said. “They’re tearing engines down, learning each piece individually, and actually put it back together.”
The students also take courses that study collision repair.
“We’re hoping to start them with a foundation so that they can go into a body shop and hopefully build on that and become successful in the industry,” Hill said.
To help the students succeed, CBS 42 surprised the two teachers with a One Class at a Time grant that will provide $1,000 to help upgrade the equipment in two of their classes.
Pruitt said they will use the grant to get newer tools that they need with the newer vehicles coming out. It will also go toward updating the welding area of the shop.
