One Class at a Time: Crumly Chapel Elementary

News

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A  Crumly Chapel Elementary teacher has an extra $1,000 to spend on her class.

Keeping a kindergartner’s attention can be challenging. Trying to teach them, takes some creative strategy.

Candace Allen, teacher at Crumly Chapel Elementary said, “Keep them active. keep them moving. It’s kind of like, it’s almost like a theater class.”

It is no surprise that as a kindergarten teacher, Candace Allen uses technology in her classroom.

Allen explained, “We have six IPad. We’re lucky enough to have in the classroom.”

Allen states that she  wants to make the best use of that technology.
She said,”I really want the children to use them for hands-on activities to broaden the use of IPad.”

With the help of Eco Credit Union, CBS 42 presented Ms. Allen with a One Class at a Time grant to help her buy the needed supplies.

Allen said,”I plan on using this grant for buying Osmo kits to go with our IPads. The Osmo kits cover math, geometry, reading, phonics. So we’re really excited to be able to use those in the classroom.”
