1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Aliceville

ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Pickens County around noon Friday.

Chief Jones told news outlets an officer fired to stop someone driving a stolen vehicle in Aliceville’s downtown area.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to the scene at the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 17 across from the Family Dollar, according to SBI Special Agent Senior Jason Ward. CBS 42’s Robert Sherman confirms law enforcement agencies worked another related scene near Spiller Furniture on 3rd Avenue Northwest.

One person is in custody, but no charges have been filed, Chief Jones confirms. As of 6 p.m. Friday evening, authorities were still processing the scenes.
