VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala (WIAT) – A new $21 million dollar medical facility is coming to Vestavia Hills. Dr. Swaid Swaid with Swaid Clinic is overseeing the project. Swaid is a neurosurgeon and says this is a vision he has had for many years. According to Swaid the Vestavia Medical Plaza will serve as an outpatient ambulatory surgical center, diagnostic center, and office space for 12 physicians.
“Physicians can see their patients, send them for their diagnostics, and then hopefully perform the operation right there in the same facility allowing for a one stop shopping, if you will, for patients.” said Swaid.
The 40,000 square foot facility will be located at 1021 Old Montgomery Highway. Swaid says the project is expected to create around 50 jobs initially, and could create up to 100 jobs when the the plaza is at full occupancy. Swaid says he hopes it will attract people from all over the state and southeast.
“The main purpose of this is to bring 40 years of experience in healthcare to make the patient experience comfortable, effective. And to give the patients easy access, better quality, and hopefully reduce the cost of healthcare.” said Swaid.
Swaid says the multi-specialty surgical center will include: spinal surgery; orthopedic surgery; ear, nose, and throat services; pain management; and other specialties. Swaid predicts it will have a positive economic impact for the city.
The Vestavia Medical Plaza is expected to be complete by the end of November 2019. A groundbreaking ceremony with officials from the City of Vestavia Hills will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m. It will be held at the construction site on Old Montgomery Highway, the former home of Party Time.
