New kayak trail comes to Calhoun County

OXFORD, Ala (WIAT) – A new kayak trail is now open to the public.

The Choccolocco Creek Water Shed and City of Oxford held a grand opening Wednesday for the new Choccolocco Kayak trail. Participants are able to rent kayaks, life-jackets, and paddles or bring their own equipment and enjoy the just over two-mile trail.

Jennifer Yates is the Program Coordinator of Choccolocco Creek Water Shed. Yates says the trail is easy and great for families.

“It’s about two street miles or so. We will put you in upstream next to Mellon Bridge on Cider Ridge Golf Course,” says Yates. “We will transfer you there and put you in the water. And you will float back here to our kayak building.”

Yates says the trail is about a two-hour float. In the future, the organization would like to include a nature center and outdoor classroom to highlight the beauty of the area.

The trail is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The location is at 1506 Boiling Springs Road in Oxford.

You can pay $25 to rent a single kayak, $40 for a double kayak, and $10 for the shuttle ride if you have your own equipment.
