Memorial honors 5 Dallas Officers killed in an ambush


DALLAS, Texas (CBS & CNN) – The Dallas Community is honoring 5 fallen officers on the third anniversary of a deadly July 2016 Shooting.

A sculpture honoring their sacrifice was unveiled Monday and presented to the Dallas Police Department.

The fallen officers’ families were also consulted as part of the process before the final sculpture was approved. Dallas Officers Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, and Patrick Zamarripa and Dart Officer Brent Thompson were killed July 7, 2016.

Micah Johnson, Identified by Police as the lone shooter also died in the attack. The motive was said to be anger from shootings involving Police Officers and African-American men.

The Ambush was considered the deadliest attack on law enforcement in the U.S. since 9/11.
