IRVING, Texas (WIAT) — DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse customers may have noticed some local television stations being blacked out this 4th of July. That is due to continuing contract negotiations between cable provider and Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc., our parent company.

Over 120 stations in 97 markets across the United States are experiencing these blackouts, including CBS 42 WIAT here in Birmingham.

Here is Nexstar’s full statement:

Nexstar owns television stations all across the country and says they have attempted to reach a deal with the DirecTV to no avail but would still like to reach an agreement.

According to a press release from Nexstar, the broadcasting company also attempted to reach an extension to make a long-term agreement to avoid black outs.

Nexstar and CBS 42 are encouraging DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse customers who want to have the station back on their screens to call the cable provider and ask for an agreement to be reached.
