National Skyscraper Day


Today is National Skyscraper Day! Can you name all of Birmingham’s skyscrapers?

According to, this holiday encourages people to learn more about the science and art of building skyscrapers. The term “skyscraper” originates in the United States in the late 1880s during the building boom in Chicago and New York.

What determines a skyscraper? 40 floors. According to The Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the U.S. is an authority on the official heights of tall buildings and determines which building receives the title of “Tallest Building in the World.”

How do you celebrate this national observance? Go up to your local skyscrapers and take in the view from the top floor.
