BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – At about 1 P.M. on Tuesday, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a silver Buick in the Adger community matching the description of a vehicle used in a Tuscaloosa County burglary Monday. Upon turning to check the tag number, the vehicle sped off.
The deputy began a chase along Mud Creek road and Johns Road to Weller Road near the Tuscaloosa County line. The driver suddenly stopped the car on Weller Road and got out with his hands in the air.
Twenty-seven year old Alex Justin Williams of Adger was taken into custody. Williams also had a female passenger in the car as well as a 3-year-old in a car seat in the back. The child, who was found to be the daughter of the passenger, was crying, but unharmed. The passenger and her child were released at the scene.
Upon investigation, Williams was found to have an outstanding felony warrant for a Probation Violation. He said he ran because he knew he had been featured on Crime Stoppers and did not want to go to jail.
Williams was arrested and charged with the outstanding warrant and Attempting to Elude. No bond has been set at this time.
