Man charged with murder of girlfriend in Brent in July

BIBB COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend following her death last month in Brent.

On Monday, Quindarius Simmons was found near Huntsville by U.S. Marshals and arrested. Last month, a Bibb County grand jury indicted Simmons, 21, for the murder of his girlfriend, Shania Moore. A warrant had been out for Simmons’ arrest for over a month.

On July 1, Brent officers were called to Moore’s home on South Scottsville Road, where the 19-year-old was found dead with a gunshot wound to her head. At the time, investigators were not sure whether Moore’s death was intentional or an accident, but later ruled the case as a homicide.

Nikita Nord, Moore’s cousin, told CBS 42 that Moore’s death was devastating.

“It really hurts to lose someone you were really close too and it’s going to stick with me because I was the one who went inside the house and saw her laid out like that,” Nord said shortly after Moore’s death. “And it’s really going to hurt.”

Bibb County District Attorney Michael Jackson said this has been a difficult case for everyone involved.

“I talked with her mom recently and this has been rough on the family,” Jackson said.

Simmons is being held at the Bibb County Jail. His bond has been set at $500,000.
