BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — On Tuesday, Mayor Randall Woodfin held a press conference to address a variety of topics, including new regulations for search warrants.
“This new process protects citizens and it protects police,” Woodfin said.
Woofin said the new regulations centralizes all search warrants and creates a process to ensure those who secure the warrant also provide valuable input for those who serve the warrant. It also requires a risk assessment to be completed for serving a natural search warrant, as well as disallowing devices like flashbangs by police unless the risk assessment specifies their use or extreme circumstances call for their use.
“I’m confident that this is the next right step and I want to thank Chief Smith and those who advise him, including faith leaders such as Pastor (Thomas) Beavers,” Woodfin said.
