Walker County traffic accident claims life of 13-year-old girl

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Walker County Coroner confirms a traffic fatality occurred on Buttermilk Road in Cordova on Friday.

According to Appling, the 13-year-old victim was identified as Blakely Foster.

Foster was killed when the vehicle she was riding in left the road, overturned and hit a tree. Appling says she was not wearing a seat belt.

Trooper Jonathan Appling said the accident happened around 8 a.m. and was a single vehicle accident.

The driver, who Appling identified as 19-year-old Meleaha Mercedes Micshelle Poe, and another juvenile passenger were taken to UAB Hospital to be treated for injuries. Foster was pronounced dead on the scene.
