BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Next weekend, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center will host the inaugural Lace Up For A Cure walk. The 2K walk benefits the Cancer Center and aims to raise awareness of the services offered there.
The walk also brings together individuals from the community who have been touched by cancer. The inclusive event will show support for a person battling cancer, survivors, or in memory of a loved one. Patients, families, and caregivers are invited to the event representing all cancer types.
UAB’s Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center located in the four-state area that includes Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. It features clinical trials, precision oncology efforts and continued commitment to outreach efforts in cancer disparities. The Center is at the forefront of improving cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
The walk features fun for all ages, including an event T-shirt, yoga dance by Lorri Hanna, and music by DiJital Entertainment. Smoothies and acai bowls will be available for purchase from City Bowls.
Registration is $25 online and is available on-site. The 2K walk route can also be viewed here. It’s happening at the UAB Campus Green on Ninth Avenue South. Free parking is available just steps away from the Campus Green in the UAB Ninth Avenue Deck at 1602 Ninth Avenue South, Birmingham.
