TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Tuscaloosa authorities are investigating an infant drowning in a bathtub as a possible homicide.

According to reports, authorities responded to a call of an unresponsive 1-year-old male. The infant was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities interviewed the boyfriend of the child’s mother who was watching the infant at the time of the drowning.

The boyfriend, 27-year-old Christopher Pearson, says he left the child in the bathtub with the water running and returned a period of time later noticing the baby was almost completely underwater. Pearson says he attempted CPR until authorities arrived.

Investigators spoke to neighbors and witnesses and developed a probable cause to arrest Pearson and charge him with murder.

Pearson is now in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

No other information has been released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
