Tuscaloosa City Schools back in session, changes in some classrooms

Local News

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — School is also back in session for students at Tuscaloosa City Schools and there are changes in some classrooms this year.

Tuscaloosa Magnet School will be home to about 300 students and 17 teachers from Arcadia Elementary. Construction is underway to open the new Arcadia Elementary School.

Meanwhile, Central Elementary School students will go to class at the old Stillman Heights School because of renovations at that building.

Despite the changes, Arcadia’s principal tells me she’s excited for a new year.

“The excitement of the students coming back is always fun,” Arcadia Elementary School Principal, Amy Elam, said. “Seeing our new Pre-K students come back for the first time and seeing our kindergartners come back, that is always a fun time of year.”

There will be portable, modular classrooms at each of the locations to help accommodate the students. That includes 10 at Tuscaloosa Magnet School for students from Arcadia.
