Tuscaloosa city councilwoman speaking out against gun violence

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT)-A Tuscaloosa woman is behind bars charged with manslaughter after police say she shot and killed a man Monday in a domestic dispute. The two were arguing over a gun.

City Councilwoman Sonya McKinstry is speaking out about the tragedy calling for gun violence to stop.

“Its just a sad situation, any time your dealing with gun violence of any kind and domestic violence its stupid” McKinstry said.

The shooting happened at McKinstrys district at the Timberlane Apartments near Skyland Boulevard. 29 year old Shaneka Hoskins is facing manslaughter charges for the deadly shooting. Tuscaloosa Violent crimes officers say 28 year old Richard Jenkins was shot in the head.

“It makes no sense and these are not toys and I am constantly take a stance on gun violence and stopping the crime. And yes this did happen in my district but it happens everywhere”.

The incident stemmed from a domestic altercation between Jenkins and Hoskins who were arguing about a gun and during the altercation the weapon fired killing the victim. Hoskins in the Tuscaloosa County jail on a 30 thousand dollars bond.
