TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A massive four alarm fire in Tuscaloosa destroyed the Mount Pilgrim Baptist church Thursday morning.  It happened around 9:30 a.m. on East 39th street, good news is there were no injuries.

Tammie Davis heard about the fire and drove from Eutaw in Greene County to make sure her 20-year-old daughter and her 2-year-old grandson were ok.  Both were inside the church daycare when the fire started.

I was scared and nervous trying to get to Tuscaloosa to make sure they were ok And thank God when I got  here everything was okay and everybody made it out safe.  So I thank God for that Davis said.

A total of 45 children and staff all escaped safely.  Pastor Frank Kennedy says the sanctuary was built
63 years ago and the building did not have a working sprinkler system.  Kennedy is just thankful
every one survived.

“We are grateful nobody got hurt and everyone got out okay and everyone is moving on to what they
need to do and we are going to take one day at a time, Kennedy said.

The cause of the fire is unknown and its under investigation.
