BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Visitation will begin for one of the first African-American members of the Alabama legislature, Chris McNair. McNair’s daughter, Denise, was one of the four girls killed in the 1963 church bombing.
McNair spent his career in politics fighting for civil rights and served as a state representative and Jefferson County commissioner from 1986 until he resigned in 2001 over ties to the Jefferson County Commission Sewer Scandal.
Visitation will be held at Davenport and Harris Funeral home from 5 to 7 this evening. His funeral will be held at 16th Street Baptist Church tomorrow (Friday). The service begins at 11 a.m.
