CNN – According to a new study published in the Medical Journal Jama Pediatrics, children can be reliably diagnosed with autism earlier than recommended now.
Autism is a spectrum disorder that can affect social skills, behavior and communication abilities.
The current guidelines state that children can start being screened during regular visits between 18 and 24 months old.
But in the new study published in the Medical Journal Jamam pediatrics, Autism detection and diagnosis can start with high accuracy at just 14 months.
CNN reports researchers to say that could lead to the children with autism having the opportunity to start therapies early. They add earlier intervention may increase their skills at school age.
