Shooting under investigation at Uptown Apartments in Fountain Heights area

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) —  UPDATE (12:00 p.m.) — According to the Jefferson County Coroner,  The victim of the unclassified shooting is 28-year-old Justin Clyde Kemp of Fairfield, Alabama.  His death is considered unclassified at this time.

In the recount from the Jefferson County Coroner, the shooting occurred Thursday night on the 1500 block of 19th Street North on a second-floor balcony.

A gun was discharged and he was shot once. 

Kemp was taken to UAB Hospital and died at 2:12 a.m. this morning. 

(5:22 a.m.): The shooting is considered unclassified at this time. The victim is revealed to be a black male in his 20s.

According to Sgt Dean of the Birmingham Police North Precinct, Birmingham detectives are investigating a shooting overnight in the Fountain Heights area, at an apartment complex called Uptown Apartments, on 19th Street North. Officers responded to the shooting call around 1:30 a.m.

Police say someone shot a man in the head. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a victim outside the complex on “the stoop.” 

 Paramedics rushed him to UAB Hospital, where he later died.

The shooting was about one o’clock this morning. Police have not released any other details about the shooting.
