Shooting under investigation at Tree Top Apartments

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A robbery escalated into a shooting at the Treetop Apartments located on the 5100 block of 36th Avenue. At 9 p.m. Tuesday, Tuscaloosa Police responded to reports of a shooting.

The victims of a robbery attempted to pursue the suspects and fired several shots with a pistol. The suspects were fleeing the scene and return gunfire when one of the rounds hit a separate apartment, penetrated an exterior wall and struck one of the occupants in the head.

The shot apartment and individual were not involved in the robbery. The victim, struck by the round, sustained a non-life threatening injury.

The Tuscaloosa Police Violent Crimes Unit was requested to the scene and has assumed the investigation.
