CARROLLTON, Ala. (WIAT) — According to Josh Hayes of the law firm of Prince, Glover & Hayes, a wrongful death settlement has been reached on the behalf of the estate of Sharon Hood, who was killed in a school bus crash at the intersection of County Roads 30 and 35 in Ethelsville in April 2015. She was 58 years old and had been a loyal and faithful school bus driver for almost 28 years.
A lawsuit was filed in the Pickens County Circuit Court against the at-fault driver, Daniel Alexander Bunch, of Aberdeen, Mississippi and many insurance companies. 14 students were also injured in the wreck and were represented in the lawsuit by various Tuscaloosa and Birmingham law firms.
“Although no amount of money could adequately compensate the Hood family for their loss, we are pleased that the full limits of insurance were paid and recovered in this case,” Hayes said. “Mrs. Hood was a role model for many and took special interest in school children, often providing them with snacks and drinks out of her own pocket. The legacy she left will live on for years to come.”
Some of the insurance money recovered was Underinsured Motorist coverage benefits. This is in place for instances like this collision, when the injured parties’ damages go over the available insurance coverage of the at-fault driver.
