MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — Secretary of State John Merrill addressed questions about the number of Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) ballots and provisional ballots cast in the December 12 Senate special election.

There are a total of 5,452 uncounted ballots that will be added to county totals. 366 of the 485 UOCAVA ballots transmitted have been received so far. 2,888 of the 4,967 provisional ballots transmitted have been received at this time.

Merrill says the totals from those votes will be included in county totals no later than December 22nd. No additional ballots are eligible to be received.

Secretary Merrill will meet with the Alabama State Canvassing Board to certify the results of the special election no later than December 26th.

Democratic candidate Doug Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore in the special election by more than 20,000 votes.
