Body of missing boater recovered in Etowah County

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (5:22 a.m.) — After a search by multiple local agencies, the body of a missing boater was discovered early Thursday morning.

According to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Kha Thanh Tran, 44, of Gadsden, was recovered just after 3 a.m. Thursday morning. The search took place near the Coosa River close to Appalachian Bridge between the Hokes Bluff and Cotes Bend community.

The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe this may have been an accident.

UPDATE (3:50 a.m.) The Etowah County Sheriff’s office says the boater’s body has been recovered.

ORIGINAL: A search is underway for a missing boater in Etowah County.

Sheriff Jonathan Horton says the boater did not return home after leaving around Noon on Wednesday for a fishing trip.

As of 11 p.m., boats with Etowah County Sheriff’s office, Hokes Bluff Fire, Cotes Bend Fire, Ball Play Bend Fire and ALEA are searching an area of the Coosa River close to Appalachian Bridge between the Hokes Bluff and Cotes Bend Community.
