TUSCALOOSA. Ala. (WIAT) — A lot of eyebrows were raised Saturday after Jalen Hurts’ comments on the quarterback situation at Alabama. Wednesday afternoon, Nick Saban had his first chance to address them publicly.

“Every player has a right to express what he feels and what he thinks, and I think he has every right to do that with every coach or everybody in the organization that he has a relationship with,” Saban said. “The rhetoric will not have anything to do with who will be the quarterback. That will be decided on the field.”

Saban said Hurts’ comments are more important to those people outside the walls of the athletic facility.

“I don’t think this has any affect on our team,” Saban said. “I’ve talked to a lot of team leaders. The players are focused on what they need to do.”
