Rock the South announces changes; some residents concerned

CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) -- Rock the South has become a big event for Cullman the last few years, and organizers are hoping that a move to a new location will help make the event even bigger.

The musisc festival, which has attracted some of the biggest names in country music, is run by 46 Entertainment, and the company released a promotional video recently announcing a move. The event previously has been held at Heritage Park, which offered about 15 acres. This year's event will be held in a field at the corner of County Highways 469 and 436. They say the new location will create space for RV's and camping, along with on-site parking.

But some people who live near the new location expressed concerns about it to CBS 42. They're concerned about the amount of traffic it will bring to the area and the impact it will have, especially with narrow streets in the area. They're also concerned that organizers will decide to add other events in the future. Organizers tell CBS 42 that a traffic engineer has given them preliminary approval for the event, and that they have no plans for future events.

Organizers plan to start announcing the lineup on Tuesday. The festival is May 31 - June 1.
