Rise of the Rest Tour stops in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — On Wednesday, startup businesses will get a chance to compete for seed funding, as part of The Rise of the Rest Bus Tour. 

The nationwide effort rolls into the Magic City Wednesday morning. 

On the bus, co-founder of AOL, Steve Case, J.D. Vance along with several other big-name investors. 

Eight startups are competing for a chance to $100,000 in funding.

The 8 finalists in Birmingham include, Smart Alto, Eugene’s Hot Chicken, Swervice, O3 Solution, Tappas, Mixtroz, Shine E Solar and Help Lightning. 

Case created the tour to help shine a light on emerging tech industries outside of the typical places most heard of – like Silicon Valley. 

The winner will be announced Wednesday afternoon at the actual competition at Sloss Furnaces.

Other stops on the tour include Chattanooga, Dallas and Memphis.
