BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police confirm they are investigating after a hotel guest reported that a strange man appeared to be taking pictures of family members while touching himself.

The complaint was reported at the SpringHill Suites on 4th Avenue South in Birmingham.

In a response to a CBS 42 inquiry, a Marriott International spokesperson responded:

The property has informed me that when the matter was brought to their attention they immediately contacted the police.  Additionally, our social media team worked to assist the guest. The safety and security of our guests is always a top priority.

Traon Call said his sister, cousin, and a child were at the hotel pool this past Saturday and they noticed a stranger close to them using his phone.

“As they moved outside to smoke their cigarette, they noticed the guy came outside,” said Call.

According to Call, the man sat down near the outdoor area where guests often gather.

“As my sister was sitting down that’s when she noticed the guy with his phone out and also touching himself,” said Call.

Call’s sister quickly recorded video of the man on her phone and reported the incident to hotel staff.

“As I showed this video to my brother he also stated that the night before he seen the same guy in the same area where you smoke cigarettes as well the night before we went out and he seen that guy,” said Call.

Birmingham Police confirm there is an ongoing investigation after the complaint. An officer’s car was parked outside the property Tuesday, but it is unclear if it was a follow-up to the investigation.

BPD told CBS 42 there had not been any other recent similar reports.
