Red Cross honors local heroes

Local News

BIMRINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The American Red Cross honored a group of heroes Thursday morning at its annual award ceremony. The awards ceremony was at the Harbert Center.

This is the third year for the awards ceremony, and coordinators believe the event gets bigger and better each year.

Local first responders along with military servicemen and women were among those honored. This is a time to reflect on their successful year of serving the community.

“What originally started with this event is trying to draw the attention to the service they provide for the Armed Forces and the first responders. There usually there a lot of times before the responders will even get there. All the money that is raised at this event is given to that particular initiative for the service to the Armed Forces and first responders,” said Ashley Ferguson, event coordinator.

The Red Cross is always in need of volunteers and donations. If you’re interested in donating of your time or money, visit redcross.org.
