Recognize this suspect’s voice? Audio may lead to arrest, investigators believe

ADAMSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — Investigators have asked for the public’s help identifying a man who robbed an Adamsville convenience store May 21.

In surveillance footage provided by Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, the suspect can be heard cocking his weapon and demanding money from a Mosley Mart cashier. Investigators are hoping someone will recognize the crook’s voice and help them identify him.

“It’s a very scary situation. Not only did he have a handgun, but he seemed to be very agitated. It was a very dangerous situation, and it was very fortunate that nobody was hurt,” James Davis with Crime Stoppers tells CBS 42’s Robert Sherman.

According to Davis, the cashier, who was physically unharmed, handled the situation perfectly.

“She was very smart to comply, remain calm, and not agitate him. I think that is the safest way to respond in a situation like this,” Davis advises.

Investigators believe that the man knows the surrounding area well and came in off the street. “Detectives believe he came in on foot from somewhere close by,” said Davis. “He may be familiar with the area. They’re hoping that somebody out there is going to recognize him.”

In terms of how businesses can help deter crime and assist law enforcement with investigations, Davis recommends installing multiple cameras with clear pictures.

Anyone who has information related to this incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
