CARROLLTON, Ala. (WIAT) — Police in Pickens County have arrested and charged a man for killing a four-year-old boy. Twenty-nine-year-old Markevius Forte faces charges of felony murder and child abuse for allegedly killing four year old Taylor Cunningham.
Andy Hamlin says the crime happened September 8, 2018, Police found out about the case after the
victims mother brought her son to the Pickens County Medical center where Taylor Cunningham died.
“I don’t want to go into the specific details about the child’s injuries but I will say they were significant
in nature over a period of time. And we found during the autopsy there were multiple injuries found” Hamlin said.
Markevius Forte and the child’s mother were living together in Aliceville, Forte is not the four years old’s
father. Authorities would not say what the cause of death was. Yvonne Oliver is a family friend of the
suspect and also knew the victim and his family.
“Well, it broke my heart for everyone that’s involved. For Markevius and for the child, just everyone
involved it just broke my heart. It is terrible and its a no win situation that I can see, but only God knows and only God can be the ultimate judge.” Oliver said.
Andy Hamlin says his office is focused on getting the victim’s family justice.
“I don’t believe in closure because a wound like this never heals. You have a four-year-old that’s died
and passed away. But for me and this office bringing this person to justice is paramount for the family”.
Markevius Forte is in jail and his bond was set at $1 million. The date for his preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
