HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- Hoover Fire Executive Officer Rusty Lowe tells CBS 42 the old Mexico Lindo building in Hoover in the 1500 block of Montgomery Highway caught fire this evening.
Video sent into the CBS 42 Newsroom shows the building fully involved in flames Wednesday evening.
The fire has been extinguished but crews remain on the scene. The City of Hoover asks motorists driving along Hwy 31 near I-65 to use caution, as Lorna Road from McDonalds to I-65 is completely blocked by police and fire crews.
Hoover Fire said the building was unoccupied as it had previously been sold and was slated to become some sort of sports complex. They responded to the fire around 7 p.m. They said some of the power lines in the area have been affected by their efforts to battle the fire. The building is expected to be a total loss. The fire was contained to the old Mexico Lindo building, and didn't affect the adjacent properties.
