TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Seventeen and counting… That’s how many National Championships the Alabama football program claims. It’s also the number of homes built by the Nick’s Kids Foundation for Tuscaloosa families.

Nick Saban, Miss Terry, several Alabama football players and other volunteers teamed up with Habitat for Humanity Saturday to help build another National Championship home. The build is part of the 17-For-17 project and a continuation of the efforts to rebuild the Tuscaloosa-area following the 2011 tornado.

This particular home in Tuscaloosa is for the Smith family, Donna, her daughter Megan and son Andrew. Andrew uses a wheelchair because of a birth defect known as Spina Bifida. Andrew’s mom says the home will open up a whole new level of independence for him because it’s handicap accessible.

Listen to Miss Terry Saban, Donna Smith, Alabama Defensive End Isaiah Buggs and quarterback Jalen Hurts talks about the project above.
