HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — During a special-called meeting Thursday, the Hoover Board of Education announced its selection for the new superintendent of education for Hoover City Schools.

Dr. Kevin Maddox, assistant superintendent of Homewood City Schools, was unanimously appointed as the next leader of Hoover City Schools, succeeding Dr. Dee O. Fowler, who is retiring.

Maddox has nearly 30 years of experience as an educator, with 20 of those years as an administrator. He was one of seven candidates the board considered.

Hoover Board of Education members CBS 42 spoke with said experience and vision for Hoover City Schools were reasons why they feel Maddox is the right man for the job.

“He’s been a high school principal, a middle school principal,” Hoover Board of Education President Kermit Kendrick said. “He is very familiar with finance, facilities and HR.”

Kendrick said Hoover is currently recognized as a top school system in Alabama. He hopes Maddox will keep Hoover City Schools going in the right direction and help increase enrollment.

Kendrick said the board’s next step is to negotiate a contract with Maddox so that he can officially begin his new position. CBS 42 made multiple attempts to speak with Maddox, but he was unavailable.
